Gifts for Christ
Our Gifts for Christ programs provides a vehicle for members, friends, and other supporters of our church to use to help address specific needs. This is how it works. Whenever one of our committees or programs is confronted with a need that is not in the budget, they add it to the Gifts for Christ list. Alice Mayer (203-748-2774) maintains the list and publishes it in the Heartbeat as well as on a chart in Mitchell Hall. Sometimes the items on the list require a volunteer's time, sometimes a little bit of money and sometimes a whole lot of money. More costly items are often divided into shares so that several of us can help share the burden to minimize the financial impact on any one individual.
Then it's your turn. If you see a need on the list that you would personally like to take care or, just let Alice know (203-748-2774) what you are going to do.
An example of a need which has appeared on the Gift for Christ list for some time is metal folding chairs for Mitchell Hall. We use these chairs in the classrooms, in Mitchell Hall for various meetings, for the pasta dinners and many other places. In addition to not looking so hot, the old chairs are often bent or otherwise damaged and neither sit or fold so well.. So you will see metal chairs on the Gifts for Christ list. The list identifies the make and model and notes that they are available at Costco. Over a period of many months we have replace about half of our chairs. If you would like to assist in this long term effort, pick one up the next time you are getting your gallon jars of dill pickles and leave it off at Mitchell Hall and don't forget to tell Alice.
